Okoboji/HMS wrestlers competing in Class 2A at the state tournament wrestled Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 15) at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. First and second round matches, as well as first-round consolation matches were on the opening day schedule.

Bryce Dodge (26-13), seeded 20th at 152 pounds, was paired with 13th seeded Talan Weber, 11, of Charles City (19-4) in the first round. The winner advanced to take on Chase Thomas, 12, of Osage (30-6), the fourth seed.

Other first-round matches for Okoboji/HMS qualifiers were: 120 pounds – Dylan Jones (No. 21, 29-12) vs. Christian Ahrens (No. 12, 41-7), a junior from Creston; 160 pounds – Noah Strantz (No. 16, 35-8) vs. Chase Greiner (No. 17, 42-10), a junior from Washington; 170 pounds – Nathaniel Franklin (No. 22, 22-11) vs. Zayvion Ellington (No. 11, 47-10), a sophomore from Sergeant Bluff-Luton; and 220 pounds – Sam Pas (No. 10, 35-7) vs. Trenton Kingrey (No. 23, 24-12), a senior from Knoxville.

State meet action continues on Feb. 16 with the quarterfinals as well as the second and third-round consolation matches. Feb. 17 features the semifinals and the fourth and fifth round consolations. Both sessions begin at 1:30 p.m.

The final day on Saturday, Feb. 18 begins with consolation semifinals and finals in all classes. The session begins at 9 a.m. The final session includes awards, the grand match at 5:30 p.m. and championship matches for all classes at 5:50 p.m.
