Lance Berends sets H-M-S rebounding record
Lance Berends is the all-time career leader in rebounds at H-M-S, passing Blake Simons. A commemorative basketball was presented by Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund.
Lance Berends became the leading rebounder in Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys' basketball history on Jan. 27 at Hinton.
The senior's accomplishment was recognized with the presentation of a commemorative basketball prior to Friday night's game with Trinity Christian. He was joined on the court by teammates and Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund.
Berends broke the record of 906 rebounds that had been held by Blake Simons. Entering this week, Berends has 238 rebounds this season to give him 958 overall. He had 189 rebounds as a freshman, 225 as a sophomore and 306 as a junior.
