Darwyn Verne “Tony” Snyder passed away on Dec. 2, 2022, in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 98.
He grew up in Marathon, the only child of Rodney and Naomi (nee Goetschius) Snyder. He expressed fond memories of small-town life and later, Sioux City, where the family moved in 1941 when he was 17. He was enrolled at Morningside College for 1-1/2 years before enlisting in the Army. He was deployed overseas to Marseilles in October 1944, and participated in the southern invasion. During the winter of 1944-45, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
