• Pair arrested on several charges

A Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 4300 mile of Highway 71, at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 18. Upon pulling in behind the vehicle, the deputy witnessed the female driver switch places with the male passenger.

Bayli Jordan, 20, of Spencer, and Kyle Williams, 25, of Des Moines, were taken into custody and transported to the county jail. According to the report, upon further investigation Jordan was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and Williams was found to be in possession of Oxycodone.

Jordan was charged with Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Driving Under Suspension, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Operation without Registration, No Insurance and Speeding, all simple misdemeanors. Williams was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Oxycodone, a serious misdemeanor; and Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. Both were released on bond.

Also on Jan. 18, the sheriff’s office deployed the drug detection K9 on the vehicle involved in the traffic stop. The K9 detected the odor of an illegal substance. A search warrant was obtained and executed on Jan. 23, during which time numerous items of drug paraphernalia were located.
