May City firemen hosting soup supper

The May City Fire Department will hold its annual soup supper on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 5-7 p.m.

Free will donations will be accepted. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Daycare fundraiser is March 4

The Hartley Community Daycare Center will hold its annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 4.

The evening will feature a prime rib meal and casino games. See the ad on Page 8 for more details.

CMI annual meeting is Feb. 8

Century Mutual Insurance will hold its annual meeting for all policyholders on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m., at the home office in Hartley.

Legion Family to meet Feb. 7

The Hartley American Legion Family will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Legion Building.


Many events planned at Hartley library

Hartley Public Library will be hosting a “Coloring and Tea” event for adults on Monday Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. Enjoy a relaxing pastime of coloring while sipping a hot beverage. Coloring pages and supplies, as well as the tea are provided.

The library’s Between the Covers Book Club will be reading “State of Wonder” by Ann Patchett as their February book. Please stop at the library and pick up a copy if you would like to read it. The book discussion will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. New members to the book club are always welcome.

A pre-Valentine’s Day showing of the romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise,” starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, will be held at the library on Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. Popcorn and Valentines-themed snacks will be provided.


No meal at Red’s

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will not be serving a carryout special on Wednesday, Feb. 8. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Thursday, Feb. 2: Breakfast – Pancake/sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Chili/crackers, cinnamon roll, broccoli, celery, oranges.

Friday, Feb. 3: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Pork chop patty, mashed potatoes, baby carrots, roll, pears.

Monday, Feb. 6: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – French bread pizza, romaine salad, cherry tomatoes, apples.

Tuesday, Feb. 7: Breakfast – Cinnamon roll, fruit, juice; Lunch – Chicken patty on bun, mashed potatoes, green beans, peaches.

Wednesday, Feb. 8: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Crispito, lettuce/cheese, refried beans, red peppers, cucumbers (9-12), bananas.

Thursday, Feb. 9: Breakfast – Waffles, sausage (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – Scalloped potatoes and ham, cooked carrots, applesauce, roll, bread (9-12).

Friday, Feb. 10: No School – Professional Development.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

All are welcome to attend.

Camp Autumn fundraiser set for Feb. 11

Seasons Center for Behavioral Health and Camp Autumn are hosting their annual ice fishing tournament and fundraiser at Camp Autumn on Saturday, Feb. 11.

This event is open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required. There is no registration fee; however, freewill donations will be accepted. All money raised goes towards scholarships for children to attend Camp Autumn, a therapeutic camp for children in northwest Iowa.

This event is supported by the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club, which will coordinate and judge the tournament. Prize categories will be based on length for the following species: bass, crappie and bluegill/other panfish. In addition, the club will offer free ice fishing rod and reel combos to the first 60 kids (15 and under), and will also provide ice shacks, poles and gear for individuals or families who do not have ice fishing equipment. Equipment will be available on a first-come, first-serve rotating basis.

There will be volunteers to help those trying the sport for the first time. There will also be special challenge holes, bobber and jig demonstrations and a s’more making station on the lake.

Coffee and hot cocoa will be provided for the tournament, and lunch will include chili and spaghetti,

Camp Autumn is located at 4233 Yew Ave., northeast of Sutherland.
