• Ice on roads leads to accidents

Icy roads contributed to three accidents investigated by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

Colin Michael Odenbrett, 16, of Primghar, was westbound in the 5600 mile of 390th Street at 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 4 when he lost control of a 2002 Chevrolet K1500 due to icy road conditions. The pickup left the roadway and struck a mailbox before entering the south ditch and rolling onto the driver’s side.

Odenbrett and Addilee Odenbrett, 13, of Primghar, reported possible pain/injury but were not transported. Damage to the pickup was listed at $3,500. The mailbox owned by Ann Hamilton, of Primghar, was valued at $100.

The sheriff’s office was notified of a rollover accident with injuries and entrapment at 1:05 p.m. on Jan. 4. Joseph Daniel Leonard, 35, of Alta, told authorities he was driving slowly on Taft Avenue, which was 100 percent ice and snow covered, when his 2004 Chevrolet 2500C/K pickup began to fishtail before entering the east ditch, where it rolled onto the roof.

Leonard was helped from the vehicle by the deputy and transported to Primghar MercyOne Hospital by the Sutherland Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $5,000.

Another accident occurred at 7 a.m. on Jan. 5, when Carly Grace Haden, 25, of Paullina, was northbound in the 4400 mile of McKinley Avenue. She lost control of the 2011 Ford Escape after hitting a patch of ice, entered the snow-filled east ditch and overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
