• Arrested on active warrant

Jacob Jepson, 39, (no address given) was taken into custody by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 11:04 a.m. on Dec. 19, on an active warrant for Violation of Probation (two charges). Bond was set at $4,000 cash only, and Jepson was held in the county jail for another agency.

• Injured in Minnesota accident

A Sanborn woman was injured in an accident near Fairmont, Minn., at 12:56 p.m. on Dec. 21. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2021 Peterbilt driven by Joshua Roger Dunn, 30, of Alta Vista, was eastbound on Interstate 90 when it collided with the rear of a 2017 Chevrolet pickup driven by Elijah David Groeneweg, 17, of Sanborn.

A passenger in the pickup, Michelle Marguerite Minton, 42, of Sanborn, was transported to the Fairmont hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Groeneweg and Dunn were not injured. No damage estimates were reported.


The Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Truman Fire and Ambulance and the Fairmont Police Department assisted at the scene.

• Attempt to avoid accident fails

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident which occurred at 7:35 a.m. on Dec. 21, near Archer.

The report states that Kent Hurtig, 66, of Archer, was westbound on 390th Street when he observed a 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by Cassandra Steffens, 41, of Primghar, crossing the centerline and drifting into the westbound lane. Hurtig attempted to avoid an accident by driving his 2003 Chevrolet pickup onto the north shoulder; however, Steffens’ vehicle continued to drift into oncoming traffic and the vehicles collided. The report states that Steffens does not remember drifting into oncoming traffic.


Steffens was transported by Primghar Ambulance to MercyOne-Primghar Hospital. Damage estimates were $15,000 for Hurtig’s pickup and $4,000 for Steffens’. Steffens was charged with Driving While Barred, Driving While License Suspended and No Insurance-Accident Related. The owner of the pickup Steffens was driving was cited for Permitting an Unauthorized Person to Drive.
