Pioneers finish sixth in team standings at Austin Roberts Memorial

Trio from H-M-S among place-finishers for Pioneers

Three third-place finishes were the best results for Okoboji/HMS wrestlers during the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament, hosted by Spencer on Dec. 17.

Dylan Jones won the 126-pound third-place match by fall in 3:08; a 3-1 win gave Noah Strantz third place at 160 pounds; and Sam Pas earned a 5-3 decision in the third-place match at 220.

H-M-S wrestler Bryce Dodge placed fifth at 152 pounds. He pinned Sam Gruis of Central Lyon/GLR in 1:15 and then lost a 13-0 major decision to Hunter Steffans of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Dodge went on to pin Bennett Duitsman of Estherville-Lincoln Central in 4:55, lose by fall to Matthew Vondrak of LeMars in 23 seconds and then win the fifth-place match by pinning Landon Rozeboom of Sioux Center in 1:04.

Wrestling at 170 pounds, James Gellerman won a 2-0 decision over Brendan Lamfers of Sioux Center and was pinned by Dylan Withers of Jackson County, Minn. in 43 seconds. Gellerman came back to earn an 11-3 major decision over Kaleb Pendergast of SB-L, lose by fall to Seth Stai of Jackson County in 1:04 and defeat Isaac Van Beek of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, 6-1, in the fifth-place match.


Ethan Wiersma pinned Nelson Clark of Spencer in 3:44 to open action in the 195-pound bracket. He lost by fall to Camden Feuerhelm of LeMars in 2:39 and lost in SV-1 to Jacques Zomermaand of Sioux Center, 14-9. Wiersma then lost a 14-4 major decision in a rematch with Clark for seventh place.

Nathan Stofferan did not place at 106 pounds. He was pinned by Jayce Curry of SB-L in 1:11, and then earned a 13-9 win over Kacen Munneke of BH/RV before being pinned by Bryce Oostenink of Sioux Center in 2:40.


Seventh place-finishers for Okoboji/HMS were Mike Gonnerman at 113 pounds and Tyce Hanson at 132.

Jackson County, Minnesota won the team title with 255.5 points, edging SB-L which finished with 254. Spencer was third with 174 team points, followed by BH/RV 148, LeMars 139.5, Okoboji/HMS 94, Sioux Center 92, E-LC 90.5, West Lyon 80.5, Sibley-Ocheyedan 68 and Central Lyon/GLR 48.

Okoboji/HMS is scheduled to return to action on Jan. 3 with a quadrangular hosted by Alta-Aurelia.
