During the week of Thanksgiving, Cooperative Energy Company and its Iowa C-Stores, participated in donating a penny for every gallon of fuel sold to Camp Courageous located in Monticello. Participating locations included Boji Junction, of Milford; Hartley Junction; Jackrabbit Junction, of Sibley; and Wildkat Junction, of Larchwood. The penny drive generated $2,360.34, which will be donated to Camp Courageous. The facility serves nearly 10,000 individuals with special needs on annual basis.

Tuesday instead of Monday for garbage collection in Hartley

Brommer Sanitation will collect garbage in Hartley on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Tuesday, Jan. 3 due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays

HCC trivia night on New Year's Eve

The Hartley Community Center will host a New Year's Eve trivia night on Saturday, Dec. 31. A prime rib buffet will be served, and admission includes a drink ticket and snacks.

Red's serving variety of options Dec. 28

Red's Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving a variety of take-out specials on Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. See the ad on Page 8.

All varsity hoop doubleheaders postponed last week

A combination of wind, snow and ice last week forced postponement of all three Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn home varsity basketball doubleheaders.

The Dec. 16 games with Gehlen Catholic were played on Monday (Dec. 19). Results of them and the games played at Unity Christian on Dec. 20 will be reported next week.

The doubleheader with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Dec. 12 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Dec. 13 games with Akron-Westfield are scheduled to be played on Saturday, Jan. 7, starting at 3 p.m.

Blood donors needed for Dec. 28 drive

Donors are needed to give blood during the Hartley community drive on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 12:30-5 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. New donors are especially needed.

Christmas Day dinner at Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Parish in Spencer will be providing a Christmas dinner on Sunday, Dec. 25, for those in the community who would like to enjoy a meal and fellowship. A meal of ham, cheesy hash browns, green bean casserole, jello fluff, dinner rolls and cookies will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Sacred Heart Parish Hall is located at 1111 4th Avenue West, just south of the Clay County Fairgrounds and has plenty of accessible parking in the back lot located directly behind the church.
