• Accident near Sheldon claims life

An Omaha, Neb. man died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident southeast of Sheldon at 1:20 p.m. on Dec. 6.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that Brian Williams, 48, was southbound on Nettle Avenue when his 2018 Hyundai crossed the centerline and struck the rear trailer axles of a northbound 2017 Peterbilt tractor/semi-trailer driven by Devon Stetson, 22, of Hull. The Hyundai left the roadway to the west.

Williams was transported by Sheldon Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, and was then airlifted to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he died on Dec. 8.

Sheldon Fire Company, SCAT, Sheldon EMA, Sheldon Police, the Iowa Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicle Enforcement and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

• Struck while making U-turn

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that vehicles driven by Zane Lee Roberts, 29, of Ocheyedan, and Dustin Caven Heuer, 19, of Sheldon, were westbound on Park Street, at 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 22. Roberts, who was in an unmarked police vehicle, observed an eastbound vehicle without headlights on. He veered right onto 21st Avenue to make a U-turn. Heuer assumed Roberts was making a right turn and continued west. As Roberts made the U-turn, his 2021 Ford F150 turned into the path of the 2003 Ford F150 driven by Heuer.

Neither driver was injured. Damage estimates were $5,000 for Roberts’ pickup and $2,000 for Heuer’s vehicle.

• Arrested on OWI, weapon charges

A traffic stop in the 3700 mile of 340th Avenue resulted in the arrest of Tyson Kruse, 22, of Emmetsburg. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Kruse was arrested at 2:14 a.m. on Dec. 11, and charged with OWI-1st and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon While Under the Influence, both serious misdemeanors.

He was taken to the Clay County jail where he was held pending his initial appearance before the magistrate.

• Vehicle rolls in ditch

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, a 2008 Ford F150 driven by Jamison Ray Jenness, 48, of Primghar, was northbound on Silver Avenue in dense fog at midnight on Dec. 11. He was talking with a passenger and missed the stop sign at the T-intersection with 470th Street. Jenness attempted to turn right but the pickup entered the north ditch and rolled.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the F150 was estimated at $8,000. Jenness was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
