• Accused of sexual abuse

Jacob Naviaux, 31, of Ocheyedan, a resident of the Pride Group near Primghar, was charged with Sexual Abuse-3rd Degree, a class C felony.

The arrest stems from an incident in which Naviaux allegedly sexually assaulted another Pride Group resident on Nov. 9. The complaint states the victim lacks the mental capacity to give consent.

Naviaux was held at the O’Brien County jail pending a preliminary hearing on Nov. 22.

• Charged with assault at jail

Walker Hollenbeck, 22, of Archer, was charged with Assault Causing Serious Injury, a class D felony, in connection with an incident at the O’Brien County jail.

The report stated Hollenbeck allegedly punched the victim several times causing serious injury. Hollenbeck claimed he did not intend to inflict serious injury. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 28.

Hollenbeck had been arrested on Oct. 23 in connection with a series of drug-related offenses and assault with bodily injury. He is to be arraigned on Dec. 12.

• Vehicle rolls against culvert

Tyson James Cook, 22, of Hartley, was southbound in the 4100 mile of Vine Avenue at 7:10 a.m. on Nov. 14 when he lost control of a 1995 Chevrolet K1500 due to snow-covered roads. The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported the truck entered the west ditch and rolled onto the front, coming to rest against a culvert.

A passenger in the vehicle, Bryce Jeremiah Cook, 20, of Sioux City, was transported by Sutherland EMS to Mercy One-Primghar with minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Cook reported possible injury but was not transported.

Damage to the pickup was estimated at $1,900. Cook was cited for Operating an Unregistered Vehicle.

• Collide at intersection

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that two vehicles collided at an intersection at 8:26 a.m. on Nov. 15.

Sean Johnson, 53, of Dickens, was westbound on 350th Street, approaching the intersection with 240th Avenue. The report states Johnson did not stop for the stop sign before entering the intersection. His 2010 Ford Fusion struck a 2018 Jeep Cherokee driven by Teresa Lemcke, 59, of Emmetsburg, which was southbound on 350th Street. It entered the southwest corner ditch, struck a stop sign and came to rest in a cornfield.

No injuries were reported. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $10,000. Johnson was cited for Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. Bud’s Service and Clay County Secondary Roads assisted at the scene.

• Swerves to avoid collision

McKenzie Liechti, 39, of Milford, was eastbound in the 2500 mile of Highway 18 at 4:59 p.m. on Nov. 15 when a westbound truck described as a new black Ford F150 lost control on a bridge ahead of her. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that as Liechti swerved to avoid a collision, her 2004 Chevrolet Suburban struck the bridge. The Ford continued westbound and was never located.

Liechti was not injured. Damage to the Suburban was estimated at $8,000.

• Loses control on snow-packed road

A juvenile male, 16, of Dickens, was driving north in the 3800 mile of N18, near Ruthven, at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 15. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile lost control of the 2006 Chevrolet K2500HD he was driving on the snow-packed road and entered the opposite ditch. The vehicle came to rest on state public hunting land.

The juvenile, who was not injured, is believed to have been traveling too fast for the road conditions. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

• Vehicle rollover on Highway 71

Josie Henrichs, 20, of Storm Lake, was northbound in the 5000 mile of Highway 71, at 8:25 a.m. on Nov. 17, when the 1999 Dodge Dakota she was driving lost traction, spun and entered the west ditch where it rolled over once and came to rest on the driver’s side.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Henrichs was not injured. Damage to the Dakota owned by Ross Parcel Landscapes was estimated at $8,000.

• Deer struck on Highway 18

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lee Palmer, 44, of Spencer, was eastbound in the 2700 mile of Highway 18 at 6:35 a.m. on Nov. 17 when the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving collided with a deer that entered the roadway.

Palmer was not injured. Damage to the Silverado owned by K&W Electric was estimated at $12,000.
