Firefighters’ pancake feed is this Sunday

The Hartley Firefighters Association will host its annual pancake breakfast on Sunday, Nov. 6 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Hartley Community Center.

Gem & Junque Sale is Saturday

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will once again hold its annual Gem & Junque sale on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Camp Okoboji.

A meal will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Election Day soup suppers planned

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley and Hope Lutheran Church in Everly will host Election Day soup and pie suppers on Tuesday, Nov. 8

Country Crafters event is Saturday

The Hartley Country Crafters will host their annual craft show on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Hartley Community Center.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided by IEF Club. The Cemetery Chapel Committe will also be selling nuts at the event. See the ads on Pages 5 and 8 for more details.

Chamber announces Christmas Cash, giveaway promotion

The Hartley Chamber of Commerce this week announced details for the Hartley Christmas Cash Loan Program. See the ad on Page 5 for more details.

Meals planned to honor veterans

The Hartley American Legion Auxiliary will host a breakfast for local veterans and their spouses or other guests on Friday, Nov. 11 from 8-9:30 a.m., at the Legion building. See the ad on Page 3 for more details.

Additionally, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will hold a Veterans Day supper later that evening. The meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m., and those who wish to attend must RSVP with the church by Friday, Nov. 4.

Caring Rose Week

Jackie’s Floral Center in Hartley is participating in Caring Rose Week Nov. 7-12. See the ad on Page 7 for more details about the promotion.

Poetry recital is Nov. 17 at HPL

The Hartley Poets Group will hold its annual fall poetry recital on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 2-4 p.m., at the Hartley Public Library.

English classes offered in Hartley

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will be offering English classes to the community starting Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Events planned in May City, Melvin

St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City will hold its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11:30-1 p.m., with an auction to follow.

In Melvin, the American Legion is planning a brunch on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Legion building.

Upcoming blood drive at Spencer

LifeServe Blood Center is conducting a drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer, on Monday, Nov. 7, from 2-6 p.m.

Hartley Public Library will be hosting a Crockpot/Slow Cooker Recipe Swap at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7. Share your favorite crockpot recipes (no need to bring food, just the written recipe). Recipe cards will be provided.

Veterans’ dinner Nov. 13 in Royal

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 248, of Royal, invites all veterans and their families to a dinner at noon on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Royal Community Building. Please bring a hot dish, salad or dessert to share. Table service and drink will be provided.

Clay Co. Auditor’s Office open for absentee voting

The Clay County Auditor’s Office will be open on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for individuals interested in casting an absentee ballot for the Nov. 8 General Election.

Absentee voting is available at the auditor’s office until Monday, Nov. 7, during normal business hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Curbside voting is also available.

Ernst staff to host traveling office hours

Staff from the office of U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will be available during November to assist residents in area counties with problems or questions about issues involving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues, and other federal programs. Senator Ernst will not be at the traveling office hours.

“I want every Iowan to know when they are in need of assistance, my office is here to help,” said Ernst. “Members of my team will be available to help in-person in all 99 counties this November, so please stop by when they are in your area.”

Constituents seeking assistance with federal agencies who are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online at http://www.Ernst.senate.gov.

Staff from Senator Ernst’s office will be available at the following area locations.

• Clay County: Wednesday, Nov. 9, noon-1 p.m. at the Spencer City Hall Council Chambers, 101 West 5th Street, Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Primghar City Hall Council Room, 160 South Hayes Avenue, Primghar.

• Osceola County: Monday, Nov. 28, 10-11 a.m. at the Sibley City Hall Conference Room, 121 9th Street, Sibley.
