1947: Light plant gets new diesel engine

• Oct. 30, 1947

The new 1,000 horsepower diesel engine for the Hartley municipal light plant arrived on the Rock Island railroad. Installation would take place as soon as the base was completed.

A surplus ever-normal granary was placed on a 20x20 foot concrete foundation at the rear of the Thorne Sales and Service garage. Plans were to enlarge the foundation and construct a cement block or tile building on the site.

With the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Foley, of Hartley, a new partnership was created. The firm of G.I. Foley Furniture and Undertaking was being renamed Foley and Son. Mr....
