Circle of Care begins Oct. 13

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is again sponsoring Circle of Care, a six-week grief recovery support group for people grieving the death of a loved one.

Each week the group will examine a different grief-related topic in a non-threatening setting where participants are encouraged but not forced to share their feelings and, in turn, receive support from others in attendance.

Circle of Care will begin meeting Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Spencer Area Activity Center (Senior Center), located at 104 East Fourth Street in Spencer.

For more information about the group, please call Diane Sparks at Warner Funeral Home, (712) 262-3640.

“Whether it’s help with the IRS, VA or a different federal agency, my office stands ready to assist 4th District Iowans. Please do not hesitate to stop by or contact my office if we can be of service,” said Feenstra (R-Hull) in a news release.

Iowans in the 4th District can also visit Feenstra.House.Gov to submit a casework request.

Traveling office hours will be held at these area locations. Note that Rep. Feenstra will not be present.

Walking tours of downtown Spencer planned in October

Clay County Heritage will provide Downtown Walking Tours in Spencer on Saturday, Oct. 22. Those interested should call (712) 262-3304 to RSVP as space will be limited.

There will be two tours on the 1931 Fire at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There will be two tours covering general history of the buildings between Fouth and Seventh streets at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. These tours will last about 40 minutes, and participants are encouraged to wear warm clothes and their walking shoes.

Thanks to a grant from the Walden Charitable Foundation, the Downtown Walking Tours will be free. If Clay County Heritage hears enough interest from the community, they may schedule more for-fee walking tours in the future. The grant from the Walden Charitable Foundation also allowed Clay County Heritage to hire Spencer High School student, Kaylee Nachtigal, as a summer intern. Nachtigal completed the research necessary to make these tours possible.

Clay County Heritage would also like to remind everyone to visit their current temporary exhibit, “Marion Helland: Nine Decades of Civil Rights Service.” This exhibit showcases Marion’s dedication to Civil Rights including her time teaching in the Freedom Schools, camping on Capitol Hill with the Poor People’s Campaign, and more.

Admission to the Clay County Heritage Center and Parker Museum is always free thanks a sponsorship from Spencer Hy-Vee. For further questions regarding these events, call the Clay County Heritage Center at (712) 262-3304.
