• Hartley man injured in Kansas accident

Rodney Keller, 70, of Hartley, was involved in an accident that occurred at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 20, near Ellsworth in central Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Keller was driving a 2016 Western Star tractor pulling a 2021 Great Dane semi-trailer eastbound on Kansas Highway 156, south of Ellsworth. The semi drifted off to the right and struck a bridge rail, left the roadway and went down a steep embankment. It continued up a hill, went airborne at the crest and back down a steep embankment before coming to rest in a soybean field.

The report stated that Keller was transported to Ellsworth Council Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

• Equipment damaged in Clay County

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a criminal mischief complaint on Sept. 24 at a property owned by David DeJong in the 3100 mile of 410th Street. Windows were broken on an excavator and a truck, but nothing was taken. Estimated damage was $850.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.

• Victims leave scene of accident

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported a 2000 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Ramiro Alvarez Lopez, 36, of Sibley, was southbound in the 2900 mile of Nettle Avenue at 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 21. The Aveo entered the west ditch, smashed through a barbed wire fence and entered a soybean field where it rolled before coming to rest.

No occupants were found when law enforcement arrived. Blood was discovered in and around the vehicle and a search for the occupants was conducted.

The following day Lopez reported the accident at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. He and a passenger left the scene in search of help but had become separated. The passenger was thought to have been seen near the intersection of 260th Street and Iowa 60 at 6 a.m. but was not there when law enforcement arrived. The passenger was later found walking along Iowa 60 near Ashton and was taken by private vehicle to a hospital with unknown injuries.

According to the report, Lopez suffered minor injuries. He did not have a valid driver’s license and told Osceola County deputies he was speeding when the vehicle crossed the bridge north of the accident scene. He lost control of the Aveo which entered the west ditch and rolled three times. Traffic charges are pending.

Law enforcement does not suspect that the passenger had committed a crime related to this incident and no charges are anticipated.

Damage to the Aveo was estimated at $10,000. Damage estimates for soybeans and a barbed wire fence owned by Dale Zoet, of Sheldon, are $1,500 and $500.

• Collide at intersection

Two vehicles collided at an intersection at 11:29 a.m. on Sept. 24. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Lee Harmon, 56, of Austin, Texas, was driving south on 130th Avenue when he failed to obey a stop sign. His 2022 Chevrolet Colorado struck a 2012 Buick Lacrosse driven by Patricia Wright, 62, of Primghar, which was westbound on 350th Street. Wright’s vehicle came to rest in the southwest ditch and Harmon’s vehicle stopped in the roadway.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the Colorado, owned by P.V. Holding Corp., was estimated at $15,000. The damage estimate for the Lacrosse was $6,000. Harmon was cited for Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
