Leland D. (Lee) Kramme, Sr., 80

Leland "Lee" D. Kramme, Sr., 80, of Onawa, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2022 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel in Onawa with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Army and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129, of Onawa. Burial will be held at a later date in Harris Grove Cemetery at Beebeetown. Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments in Onawa assisted with the arrangements.

Lee was born Nov. 10, 1941 in Hartley, the son of Daniel and Frances (Maughan) Kramme. He grew up in Hartley and went to school from K-11 in Hartley, and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1960 after his family moved there prior to his senior year.

After graduation, Lee worked with his uncle and cousins in road construction. In 1963, he was drafted into the United States Army. He did his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Lee was then sent to Vietnam to serve in the Army Engineers. Lee was honorably discharged in 1965 but remained in the Army Reserves and was later called upon to serve in the Mojave Desert. As a civilian he went on to help build many interstate highways and the Alaskan pipeline.


Leland and Connie Althoff were united in marriage on June 19, 1974. They bought an acreage in Woodbine and lived there until 1978. The family then moved to Stanwood, Wash., where Lee continued to work in the excavation business. Lee loved the hunting and fishing that Washington had to offer. He enjoyed training hunting dogs and also liked fabricating with metal and wood, building many projects from scratch.


After retiring he moved to Onawa where he enjoyed taking his dogs on sunset runs, driving his Geo Tracker on the country roads in the Loess Hills, catfishing in the Missouri River and building things in his shop.

Survivors include two daughters: Bonnie (Terry, Sr.) Watson, and Beverly (Brian) Kopp; two sons: Bill (Raquel) Wheeler and Leland, Jr. (Jessica) Kramme; grandchildren: Terry, Jr. (Staci) Watson, Leah (Matt) Shilling, Danielle (Jason) Todd, Ashley (Preston) Whitman and Lindsey Kramme; great-grandchildren: Jace Shilling, Brant Watson, Mason Watson, Addisyn McTighe, Cillian Whitman and Emmy Whitman; sister, Priscila Price, of Denver, Colo .; brothers: Scott Kramme, of Shingle Spring, Colo .; Patrick Kramme, of Loveland, Colo .; and Daniel (Kerrie) Kramme, of Sprit Lake; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Frances (Maughan) Kramme; wife, Connie L. Kramme; stepmother, Eva B. (Murphy) Kramme; stillborn twin, Leah; and grandchild, Joshua Kopp.
