• Dogs cause death of Rossie woman

Mindy Kiepe, 43, of rural Rossie, was found dead on Aug. 15 in a ditch a short distance from the driveway to her farm.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that a person found Kiepe lying in a ditch, with several large dogs near her. It was initially believed she had been involved in a motorcycle accident; however, an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner’s Office indicates that Kiepe died of multiple dog bites.

Five Great Dane dogs were determined to have caused Kiepe’s death. The dogs were humanely euthanized with the assistance of a veterinarian.

The Sioux Rapids Fire Department, Royal Fire and Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office assisted the sheriff’s office.

• Charges filed in connection with Sioux County incident

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brea Tschopp, 37, of Hartley, at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19. According to the report, the arrest was in connection with a 911 call received on June 8 from another motorist who stated that Tschopp was driving her vehicle in an unsafe manner on Highway 18 west of Hull.

When deputies stopped Tschopp, they suspected she was under the influence of a drug, while her children were passengers in the vehicle. Tschopp was charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated-3rd Offense and two counts of Child Endangerment.

The sheriff’s office Drug Recognition Expert and the Iowa Department of Human Services assisted in the investigation.
