Celebration of Life for Yagers

A Celebration of Life for former Hartley residents Earle and Alice Yager will be held Monday, Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. A reception will follow.

Enjoy sights of Croatia virtually at Hartley library

Hartley Public Library will host a virtual tour of the beautiful walled city on the Adriatic Sea: Dubrovnik, Croatia. Learn more about the history and architecture of this hidden gem at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Refreshments will be provided.

Parade entry info

Participants in this year’s Hartley Summer Celebration parade are encouraged to decorate their floats with their favorite decade theme.

Line up will begin on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Growmark FS at 9:30 a.m., with the parade to begin at 10:30 a.m. The deadline to register is Thursday, Aug. 4.

Veterans may participate in parade

Local and area veterans are invited to either walk with the Legion color guard or ride on the trailer provided in the Summer Celebration Parade on Saturday, Aug 6. Those veterans interested in participating should be at the Hartley Legion Post at 10 a.m.

Y’adnom Cemetery Walk is Aug. 6

The Y’adnom Club is sponsoring a Cemetery Walk during the Hartley Summer Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 6. The event will be held from 1-3 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery.

Tours will leave approximately every 10 minutes, with the last tour leaving at 3 p.m. Golf carts will be available and you may bring a lawn chair if you wish. Parking will be on the west side of the cemetery.

Persons who will be featured and those sharing their stories are: Bill Goering, by daughter Roxanne Shinkle; Les and Maggie Getting, by daughter Susie Stanley; Bob Heimsoth, by son Lance Heimsoth; Jerry Verhoef, by Mark Schulz; Betty Taylor, by Kathy Luedke; and Donald Treimer, by son David Treimer.

A freewill donation will be accepted. The club will use the proceeds to support various community projects throughout the year.

Alumni coffee Aug. 6

There will be a coffee for 50-plus graduates from Hartley and Melvin on Saturday, Aug. 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Light refreshments will be available prior to the parade, from 9-11 a.m. Graduates of the classes of 1940 through 1990 are welcome.

Everly UMC ice cream social

The Everly United Methodist Church will host an ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving two specials on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Legion Family membership supper

The Legion Family membership supper will be held Wednesday evening, Aug. 17, at the Hartley Legion Building. Social hour will be from 5-6 p.m. and the meal will be catered at 6 p.m.
