Deanna Lynne Rasmussen, 64, passed peacefully at Edgewood Vista in Mitchell, S.D., on Friday, July 1, 2022. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Deanna was born in Volga, S.D. to Otto and Lorraine Rasmussen in 1957. She was the third child out of five. She grew up between Bruce, S.D., Brookings, S.D. and Hartley, attended school in Bruce and Brookings, and graduated from Hartley High School. She continued her education at Spencer School of Business in Spencer, and went on to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
Deanna drove taxi in Brookings for many years, touching several lives and making as many friends as she could.
She enjoyed dancing, playing card and board games with "the gang." Deanna loved spoiling her three grandchildren when she had the chance. She also enjoyed traveling with her sisters to family functions. Deanna loved Elvis Presley, BJ Thomas and Sam Elliot. She loved painting ceramics, baking chocolate chip cookies for her loved ones, and loved all animals, especially Cocoa Puff and Reese's.
Deanna is survived by her daughter, Dara (Jerrad Ontjes-Horton), her three grandchildren, Cherise, Kailean and Callen, of Sioux Falls, S.D .; her siblings: Janelle, of Brookings, S.D .; Larry (Connie), of Cedar Falls; and Nancy, of Gilbert, Ariz .; her aunts: Ardis Geringer, of Brookings, S.D .; Shirley Henry, of Arlington, S.D .; Alona Lewellen, of Miller, S.D .; Janice VanDerWerff (Ken), of Brookings, S.D .; and Darla Ness, of Brookings, SD; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert, and sister-in-law, Joi (Bangston) Rasmussen; and her uncles, Mervin Anderson and Virgil Anderson.
