• Injured in rollover accident

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Avery Colin Bush, 21, of Hartley, was northbound in the 4900 mile of Tanager Avenue/Highway 59, at 2:10 a.m. on July 5, when his 2003 Ford F150 crossed the centerline and began entering the west ditch. Bush overcorrected, causing the pickup to go into the east ditch where it rolled on its top.

Bush was transported to Cherokee Regional Health Center by the Sutherland Ambulance with serious/incapacitating injuries that required immediate medical treatment. Damage to the F150 was estimated at $10,000.

The report stated that the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

• High winds cause semi to turn over

Significant straight winds during the derecho on July 5 caused a tractor/semi-trailer to turn over on its side on Highway 60. According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the 2020 Kenworth driven by Jerome Emil Haskin, 60, of Jackson, Minn., was eastbound near McKinley Avenue, south of Sheldon, when strong winds caused the semi to turn over onto its passenger side.

Haskin was transported to Sheldon Sanford Medical Center by Sheldon Ambulance with minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Damage to the tractor/semi-trailer was estimated at $10,000, and damage to a sign owned by the State of Iowa was listed at $100.
