Quick endings to softball games

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn loses twice at Okoboji tourney

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost twice during the Okoboji softball tournament on June 25 at Milford.

Okoboji overcame an early deficit to earn a 15-5 win. The Hawks led 3-1 after one inning but the Pioneers took control with four runs in the third, six runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. H-M-S scored twice in the fifth inning.

Cadence Klein led H-M-S with a double, a single and two runs batted in; Gracie Knobloch had two hits; Eliza Tewes had one hit and two RBI; and Kinsey Schirmer, Delaney Murphy and Addison Sheeler each had one hit.

In the pitcher's circle, Kamryn Ebel allowed 11 runs and seven hits while striking out two. Schirmer gave up four runs on four hits.

H-M-S had just three hits in a 12-0 loss to Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The hits were by Abby Otto, Klein and Tewes.

GT/RA scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and six in the third. They finished with 10 hits against Knobloch, who walked six and struck out four.


With the two losses, H-M-S ended the week with an overall record of 7-14.
