Jack E. Harms, 91

Jack Edwards Harms, 91, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Jack was born July 6, 1930 to Edward and Dorothy (Edwards) Harms. He graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1947 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa). He completed his college education at the University of South Dakota and IH Business Management School in Chicago, Ill.

He married Barbara Ann Burger in Everly on April 12, 1950. In 1953, Jack became owner/manager of Harms Implement Company, a Contracted International Harvester dealership, terminating his contract 41 years later in 1994. During those years he served on the local school board, Lutheran church board, town council, local commercial club, 17 years with the Rotary Club, telephone company board and the Clay County Fair Board. He had farm equipment dealerships in Albert City and Manson as well as the dealership in Everly. He served several terms as the Iowa representative on national dealer council boards for International Harvester Co. and CaseIH farm equipment dealers.


Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Deanne (Reece) Miller; daughter-in-law, Mary (Josh) Harms Sharlin; brother, Robert (Donna) Harms; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and his son, Douglas.

Services were held Tuesday, May 31, at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church in Sun Lakes, Ariz. His final resting place will be at Lone Tree Cemetery near Everly at a later date.
