WEC boys' teams wrap up regular season

Hawks finish 8th at WEC tournament

War Eagle Conference boys’ golf teams wrapped up the regular season at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, where the conference tournament was played on May 9.

Nick Bronstad was the highest finisher for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn at 16th overall, shooting an 18-hole total of 91 (45-46). Next were Spencer McCarter (45-51, 96), Jack Mastbergen (49-56, 105), Lucas Kroese (56-53, 109), Keith DeBoer (53-59, 112) and Wyatt Borden (70-61, 131).

H-M-S finished eighth among the 11 teams with a combined score of 401.

Akron-Westfield added a conference tourney victory to its dual meet title, finishing with a team score of 351. Unity Christian came in second at 363. The rest of the field included Remsen St. Mary’s 370, Hinton 373, Gehlen Catholic 376, South O’Brien 385, MMCRU 386, Harris-Lake Park 417, West Sioux 428 and Trinity Christian 451.

• Duals decided by same scores

Front-nine scores at the conference tourney for H-M-S and two other schools also decided two regular season duals that were cancelled. Gehlen Catholic and Hinton claimed victory with identical 176 team scores while H-M-S’s score was 192.


Bronstad was fourth on the leaderboard for both duals.

The results gave H-M-S a dual record of 3-7, finishing eighth out of 11 conference teams.
