• Hog building destroyed by fire

A former hog building located between Everly and Hartley was destroyed by fire on April 5.

Everly firemen were initially called to the location on April 4. At that time they removed the ceiling and watered it down as well as some burned rafters. Early the next morning firemen were called back to the location where the building was engulfed in flames. The building and contents, including a corn head and an antique John Deere tractor, were destroyed.

No injuries were reported. The Royal and Hartley fire departments responded to both calls and Fostoria firemen assisted on the second day. A county road department excavator helped pull the burning building apart.

A pile of trees was burning near the building, but no official cause was determined.

• Grass fire burns over 150 acres

Everly firemen also responded to a grass fire along the Ocheyedan River on April 4. The report stated that the owners were conducting a controlled burn but the fire got out of control. Between 150 and 200 acres were burned.

The owner sustained minor burns to his face. Firemen from Hartley, Fostoria and Milford assisted at the scene.
