Hawks continue indoor track success at Dan Lennon Invite

Top 10 finishes for boys, girls in Class B

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's track and field teams continued their indoor meet success in the Class B division of the Dan Lennon Invitational. The meet was hosted by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion on March 22.

H-M-S finished in the Top 10 in the boys' 4x200 relay. Ryan Borden, Ethan Diehm, Travis Kamradt and Kooper Ebel recorded a time of 1:39.95, which was good for seventh place. The Hawks' 1600-meter sprint medley relay team of Borden, Tyson Tessum, Diehm and Brenton Thomas placed 15th in a time of 4:16.06.

Running in the 60-meter dash prelims, Borden placed 21st overall, :07.51; Ebel was 24th, :07.54; and Kamradt was 51st, :07.95.

Competitors in the 400-meter dash were Bradley Zamudio, 26th, 1:01.07; Thomas, 31st, 1:01.60; and Tessum, 32nd, 1:01.71. Running the 800-meter dash were Aiden Espeland, 30th, 2:31.58; Bryce Dodge, 36th, 2:37.42; and Ryan Grotluschen, 37th, 2:38.93.

George Vargas finished 14th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:32.02. Bryce Dodge was 17th, 11:58.44; and Justyn Vasquez Alcantara was 18th, 12:11.95. Place-finishers in the 1600-meter run were Vargas, 44th, 6:03.11; Vasquez Alcantara, 47th, 6:08.00; and Damian Dodge, 48th, 6:09.06.

Thomas placed 27th overall in the 60-meter hurdles, :10.50; Bradley Zamudio was 35th, :10.88; and Ethan Wiersma came in 36th, :10.89.

Diehm placed 16th in the long jump, 18'9-1/4"; and Zamudio jumped 15'6-3/4" to place 47th. Competing in the shot put, Jesse Garcia placed 31st with a throw of 35'9-1/2"; Keevyn Jacobsma finished 36th; 35'2-1/2"; and Adam Schierholz was 43rd, 33'1".

Emily Mutombo advanced to the finals in the girls' 60-meter dash and finished eighth with a time of :08.42. She was also the leadoff runner for the 4x400 relay team that finished 11th in 4:40.42. Other runners in that relay were Anna Vander Veen, Kylee Schiphoff and Lydia Harders.

Vander Veen, Frankie Mohni, Emily Otto and Harders combined to place 19th in the 4x200 relay with a time of 2:03.19.

Also placing in the Top 20 were Schiphoff, who finished in a three-way tie for 10th in the high jump, 4'8"; Mutombo, 14th in the long jump, 14'1"; Abby Otto, 15th in the 400-meter dash, 1:10.46; and Alexis Croatt, 18th in the 3200-meter run, 13:59.25

Competing in the 60-meter dash prelims, Harders placed 23rd overall, :08.76; and Abby Otto was 47th, :09.12. In the 400-meter dash, Mohni was 36th, 1:17.21; and Luna Buchler Alonso was 44th, 1:28.87. Jocelyn Abonce placed 47th in the 800-meter run, 3:23.24. H-M-S runners in the 1600-meter run were Madison Otto, 33rd, 6:44.91; Croatt, 43rd, 7:06.73; and Abonce, 48th, 7:31.92.

Other relay results included a 37th place finish in the 1600 sprint medley by Mutombo, Schiphoff, Harders and Abby Otto, 5:24.15; and a 41st-place finish by another team of Emily Otto, Buchler Alonso, Vander Veen and Kamryn Ebel, 5:29.90.

In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, Vander Veen placed 42nd, :11.78, Schiphoff was 53rd, :12.62; and Mohni was 62nd, :13.38.

Abby Otto was 39th overall in the long jump with a leap of 11'11".
