Last Legion fish fry April 8 in Hartley

The American Legion Family of Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post #288 will host its third and final fish fry on Friday, April 8.

Summer rec program needs volunteers

The summer baseball and softball program in Hartley is need of coaches and umpires for the summer season. The rec department is also in need of a director.

2 entrees at Red’s

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving two entrees on Wednesday, April 6 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

CC/E Fish Fry planned this Friday

Clay Central/Everly Elementary will host its annual drive-thru fish fry on Friday, April 1 from 5-7 p.m., at the school in Royal. Donations will be used for STEAM.


Pick up at the front of the school. Menu features fried Alaskan pollock, homemade rolls, sweet macaroni salad and pickled herring.

Cabin Fever Golf is Friday in Hartley

The Hartley Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Cabin Fever Golf on Friday, April 1.

Prizes will be awarded for best foursome score, and participants can also vote for their favorite holes. Cost is $10 per golfer. Balls will be provided, but bring your own putter.

Trinity UCC Beef Supper is April 6

Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley will host its annual beef supper on Wednesday, April 6. The event is drive-thru only.

Omelet brunch planned for trail

The Hartley Rec Trail Committee will host an omelet brunch and bloody Mary bar on Sunday, April 10 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Hartley Community Center.

Register for VBS at Sanborn FRC

Registration is open for Vacation Bible School at Sanborn First Reformed Church, which runs June 6-10.

The City of Hartley has released rules for spring clean-up day, which will be held on Monday, April 25.

Property tax installments due March 31

The second half installment of property taxes is due Thursday, March 31. In Clay County, payments may be made Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the treasurer’s office located at 300 West 4th Street in Spencer. They may be also made by mail or dropped off in the boxes on the north and south side of the Administration Building.

Property tax information may also be obtained online at http://www.iowatreasurers.org or by calling the treasurer’s office at (712) 262-2179. Transaction fees apply to payments made online by E-check or with the use of debit and credit cards.

According to Clay County Treasurer LeAnn Black, payment of the second installment of property taxes must be received in her office or postmarked by March 31 in order to avoid penalty.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Next blood drive at Spencer is April 4

LifeServe Blood Center will conduct a blood drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer, on Monday, April 4, from 1-5 p.m.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
