March 3, 2022

The third year of the combined Okoboji/HMS wrestling program was a successful one, both in terms of team and individual accomplishments.

The Pioneers’ overall dual record in 2021-22 was 9-10. Their 3-4 record in Siouxland Conference duals gave them a fifth-place finish. Okoboji/HMS was fourth at the conference individual tournament.

Seven wrestlers from H-M-S competed at the varsity level. Senior Nick Bronstad was a Class 2A sectional champion at 285 pounds and runner-up at the district meet. Bronstad concluded his second trip to state with a seventh-place finish.

Other competitors from H-M-S were freshmen James Gellerman, who was runner-up at 182 pounds at the 2A sectional meet and third at the district, Jack Mastbergen and Aaron Ortiz; sophomore Ethan Wiersma, who placed fourth at 195 pounds at the sectional; and juniors Bryce Dodge and Jonathan Ortiz.
