Double-digit victory season for boys' hoop team
6-game win streak boosts Hawks’ record to 11-12 overall

Wins in six of the final seven games gave the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys’ basketball team a double-digit victory total for the second straight year.
The Hawks won the last five regular season games and a double overtime thriller over Trinity Christian in the first round of the 1A district tournament. The 2021-22 season ended with a 66-22 loss to Remsen St. Mary’s in the quarterfinals.
The strong finish gave H-M-S records of 11-12 overall and 4-6 in War Eagle Conference games.
Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund was impressed with the Hawks’ approach to the season.
“I’m proud of these guys’ effort and the way they worked all year,” he said. “I’m proud of their positive attitudes and how they treat other people.”
The first-year coach also had praise for seniors Wyatt Borden, Mason Brinkman, Keith DeBoer, Jordan Ortega and Brenton Thomas.
“We’re incredibly proud of their growth as players and people, and so fortunate to have them in our program,” Hoaglund said. “We’re tremendously grateful for their leadership, selflessness and positive influence, on and off the court.”
