Lance Berends is the center of attention as he was recognized for having scored the 1000th point of his career. Joining him were teammates, from left: Ethan Diehm, Kooper Ebel, Elijah Groeneweg, Trenton Vollink, Brenton Thomas, Keevyn Jacobsma, Jordan Ortiz, Mason Brinkman, Lucas Kroese, Travis Kamradt, Wyatt Borden, Keith DeBoer, Tyson Tessum and Landon Elwood.

A moment in Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys' basketball history was noted on Jan. 31, when Lance Berends was presented a special ball recognizing him for reaching the 1,000-point mark. The ball was presented by Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund.

The junior reached that career milestone at home during the Hawks' game with Hinton on Jan. 28.

Berends is quickly moving up the all-time scoring list at H-M-S. Through 20 games this season he has scored 405 points, giving him 1,085 for his career. That moves him past the 1,056 points scored by Tyler Mohr from 1998-02.

Still ahead of Berends are Josh Ahrenstorff...
