Memorial services for Larry H. Steele were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Pastor Lynn Dau officiated. Private interment was held at Trimello Cemetery in rural Royal. Warner Funeral Home in Spencer assisted with the arrangements.

Larry Harold Steele, the son of Robert and Maxine (Gieser) Steele, was born June 17, 1943 in Cherokee. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Sutherland where he received his early education in country schools and later graduated from Sutherland High School. Larry continued his education for one semester at Iowa State University where he completed a welding course.

He married Elaine Baysinger on June 25, 1967 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. After their marriage he worked at Group 21 and later purchased a welding shop in Sutherland, which he and Elaine operated from 1970-1973. They sold the business and moved to Spirit Lake where he was employed as a maintenance worker for Citation Homes for 34-1/2 years. Larry later worked part-time at Walmart for 20-plus years and at Berkley Company until his retirement. He loved fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and his special little puppies, Cookie, Taco, Foxy and Princess.

Larry passed away at Dickinson County Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at the age of 78. He was preceded by his parents and his brother, Lester.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine, of Spirit Lake; his son, Robert, and his wife, Dena Steele, of St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Sherri Steele, of Spirit Lake; four brothers and sisters: Kathleen (Bill) Eggers, of Winterset; Judy (Jim) Lestina, of Andover, Minn., Brian Steele, of Lubbock, Texas; and Lori (Dean) Hubin, of Crystal, Minn.; other relatives and friends.
