Pioneers finish 7th at Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament

The Okoboji/HMS wrestlers wrapped up the pre-holiday schedule at the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Seven individuals placed during the 15-team invitational at Spencer, and the Pioneers finished seventh as a team overall.

H-M-S wrestler Nick Bronstad was one of two third-place finishers. He won his Round 1 match at 285 pounds by fall over Cameron Scholten of Jackson County Central, Minn. (5:24) and his quarterfinal match over Cody Nielson of Algona (0:58). Easton Fleshman of West Lyon won the semifinal match (1-0). Bronstad came back to pin Kaden Dillavou of Sergeant Bluff-Luton (1:49) and defeat Megaeska Kalsket of West Monona-Whiting in the third-place match (6-4).

Another place finisher from H-M-S was James Gellerman. He lost to Garrett McHugh of SB-L in the 182-pound quarterfinals (1:06) and to Camden Feuerhelm of LeMars (2:40). Gellerman then defeated Trenton Sorensen of Eagle Grove (6-1) and edged Jacques Zomermaand of Sioux Center in the seventh-place match (8-7).

Bryce Dodge did not place at 170 pounds. He lost by fall to Reid Hulshof of Sioux Center (2:16) and by technical fall to Clyde Hildreth of West Monona-Whiting (15-0/4:24).

Other Okoboji/HMS place finishers were Dylan Jones, third at 120 pounds; Tyce Hanson, fourth at 113; Noah Strantz, fourth at 152; Sam Pas, sixth at 220; and Brennan Baschke, seventh at 126.

Jackson County Central won the team title with 269 points and Sergeant Bluff-Luton was runner-up with 232.5. Spencer was third with 168 followed by Algona 154.5, West Lyon 125, Sioux Center 116.5, Okoboji/HMS 85, West Monona-Whiting 84.5, Eagle Grove 79.5, Central Lyon/GLR 72.5, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 69, LeMars 64, Estherville-Lincoln Central 62, Lawton-Bronson 30 and Sibley-Ocheyedan 23.5.
