Festival of Trees in Hartley is Dec. 6-23

This year’s Festival of Trees at the Hartley Public Library will be held Dec. 6-23. The event showcases decorated trees from local businesses and clubs.

Forms are available by emailing [email protected] or visiting the library’s website and filling out a form by clicking on the “Festival of Trees” link under the “Services” tab.

Set up is taking place now through Dec. 4 during normal hours. Those who visit the display will be able to vote for their favorites in several different categories.

Concert is Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran

Jennie Williamson will be performing a Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. All are invited to attend.

Admission is free. A free will offering will be taken.

Giving Tree is back

Local residents can once again participate in the H-M-S Giving Tree project this holiday season.

Ornaments are available for pick up at Iowa State Bank and Sanborn Savings Bank in Sanborn; Treimer’s Insurance Agency, United Community Bank and Savings Bank in Hartley; and JR’s in Melvin. Wrapped gifts are due back by Dec. 10.

Holiday open houses in Everly

Four holiday open houses are planned Friday, Dec. 3, in Everly: Custom Welding & Repair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m .; State Bank & Insurance, 9 a.m.-1 p.m .; Everly City Hall, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Evertek, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Open houses planned in Hartley

Several holiday open houses are planned in Hartley beginning today, Dec. 2 through next week. Check out the ads inside for information about events planned at Treimer’s Insurance Agency, United Community Bank, Rainbow Cutlery, Jackie’s Floral Center, Century Mutual Insurance and the City of Hartley.

Children should take note of the special guest making an appearance at United Community Bank on Friday.

Trivia night postponed

The Hartley Community Center’s ugly sweater trivia night planned for Saturday, Dec. 4 has been postponed until Friday, Dec. 31. More information will be released later this month.

Lions Burger Bar

The Hartley Lions Club will hold its annual burger bar on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. See the ad on Page 6 for more details.

Holiday Vendor Fair

The Hartley Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual vendor fair on Sunday, Dec. 5. See the ad on Page 3 for complete details.

OCCB volunteer Christmas tea

To say “thank you” to all the volunteers who have shared their time and talents this past year, the O’Brien County Conservation Board will host a volunteer Christmas tea at the Prairie Heritage Center on Friday, Dec. 10, from 2-3 p.m.

All past, present and future volunteers are invited to join in the celebration. Light refreshments will be served and an overview of upcoming events and plans will be shared.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer at the Prairie Heritage Center is invited to attend the event to learn more about opportunities, meet other volunteers and fill out an application. Backyard winter birding season near

O’Brien County Conservation Naturalist Abbie Parker will lead an hour-long program on birds you may see this winter and what you can do to create the ultimate birding spot in your own yard.

You will also have the opportunity to create your own feeder to take home. This program is at no cost and is great for people of all ages.

The backyard winter birding program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Prairie Heritage Center from 10-11 a.m. Registration is required. Participants can register at https://prairieheritagecenter.org/. Registration is open until Dec. 9.
