1946: Snow forces plane to land on Hartley farm

• Nov. 14, 1946

An airplane from Eli, Minn. to Spencer became lost in a snowstorm and had to make a forced landing on the Fred Will farm near Hartley. Mr. Williams, the pilot and only occupant, was unhurt and the plane was not damaged.

Work was for the most part completed on the Hartley skating rink at the north end of the municipal park. Retaining boards were put in place to hold the water in a specified area and flooding was to begin as soon as cold weather was here to stay.
