• Charged following incident in Granville

Jose De Leon Tavarez, 35, of Hartley, was arrested following an incident at a Granville residence early on the morning of Oct. 18.


According to authorities, De Leon Tavarez allegedly entered a Granville residence and assaulted two individuals. The one who was injured is reported to be his former domestic partner.

De Leon Tavarez was charged with Burlgary-1st degree, a class B felony, and Domestic Abuse Assault with Injury, a serious misdemeanor. He was held in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

• Assault reported in Royal

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was called to 204 Long Street in Royal, on Oct. 17 at 9:48 p.m., for a report of an active assault involving three male subjects.

Following an investigation at the scene, Victor Jasso, 35, of Austin, Texas, and Esteban De Santiago, 34, of Weslaco, Texas, were arrested and charged with Assault-Serious Misdemeanor.

The two subjects were transported to the Clay County jail where they were held for their initial appearance before the judge. The Spencer Police Department assisted at the scene.

• Respond to field fire

Firemen responded to a field fire on Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m., at 2921 Vine Avenue north of Hartley. Corn stubble was believed to have ignited by the restarting of a trash pile that had last burned a few days before.

A small area of stubble burned and the fire was quickly extinguished.

• Goes airborne over gravel road

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident at 12:01 a.m. Oct. 17 at 12:01 a.m. on 460th Street.

The report stated that Spencer Keith Hansen, 27, of Paullina, was westbound on 460th Street, which is a level B roadway, when his 2002 Dodge Dakota crossed Tyler Avenue and went airborne. The front of the pickup gouged the gravel road as it landed, rolled onto its top, went off the roadway and entered a row of trees.

Hansen was not transported for treatment of small scrapes to his left arm. Damage to the Dakota was estimated at $10,000. He was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
