Hartley firemen to canvass town

The Hartley Firefighters’ Association will be holding its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 7. Prior to the event, the firefighters will be canvassing town and selling tickets on Monday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Leave your porch light on if you’re interested in buying tickets

The pancake breakfast will be held at the Hartley Community Center. See the ad on Page 6 for more details.

Soup suppers Nov. 2

Both St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley and Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are hosting Election Night soup suppers on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Vets supper is Nov. 11

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley is hosting a complimentary supper for local veterans on Nov. 11. R.S.V.P. by Nov. 4.

Everly Heritage Museum opening

The Everly Heritage Museum will hold a grand opening bash on Friday, Nov. 12 featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and concert fundraiser. Tours of the new museum will be held the following day on Nov. 13.

Everly firefighters hosting breakfast

The Everly Firefighter’s Association will hold a benefit breakfast for Deb Iske on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the fire station. All proceeds will go to Iske, who is battling cancer.

Hartley Chamber trunk-or-treat

The Hartley Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat downtown on Friday, Oct. 29 from 3:30-5 p.m. The route will start at City Hall and conclude at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.


Free hotdogs will be provided at the church by Fiesta Foods.

Open houses planned in Hartley

Two open houses are planned in Hartley this weekend at Corn-Fed Cricket and Rainbow Cutlery and Tupperware.

Hartley Country Crafters is Oct. 30

The Hartley County Crafters will host their 37th Annual Craft Show this Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Hartley Community Center.

The Pleasant View Cemetery Chapel Committee will also be selling nuts at the event. See the ads inside for more details.

Blood drive Nov. 1 at Spencer

LifeServe Blood Center is conducting a drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer, on Monday, Nov. 1 from 12:30-6 p.m.

Legion Family to meet Nov. 2

The American Legion Family of Hartley will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Legion Building.

Donors provide 40 units of blood

LifeServe Blood Center’s drive in Hartley on Oct. 20 collected 40 units of blood that will be provided to local hospitals. The next drive in Hartley is scheduled for Dec. 29.

Movie night at Melvin FRC

First Reformed Church in Melvin will host its next community movie night on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m., when the movie “Spirit Riders” will be shown.

In this touching family drama, a rebellious 17-year-old girl finds herself arrested and sentenced to a work-release program at the Spirit Riders ranch, which is an equine (horse) therapy camp where she is clearly out of her element. However, she finds a kindred spirit in Blaze, a retired racehorse having difficulty adjusting to his new domesticated life. Under the guidance of the ranch’s no-nonsense owner she helps retrain Blaze and in the process, learns how to let go of the past, forgive herself and set her spirit free.

Refreshments will be served during a brief intermission.

Homeschool nature program at Dog Creek

The O’Brien County Conservation board invites families who are homeschooling to take part in monthly programs this fall and winter. Homeschool nature programs will provide opportunities to discover the outdoors, have hands-on learning experiences and explore natural history.

Each month will focus on a different topic during the hour and half long program. Children of all ages are invited to join and they must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required for each program of interest.

November’s homeschool nature program will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Dog Creek Park from 1:30-3 p.m. Participants will learn about the animal food chain and investigate skulls. Participants will also go on a hike to see if they can find evidence of animals living at Dog Creek Park.

Food pantry at HLC

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
