Hartley-area poets to meet Oct. 28

The Hartley Poets Group will meet on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m., at the Hartley Public Library. All local poets are invited to attend.

Additionally, the group will host its annual poetry reading on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m., at the library. All local poets are invited to attend and participate. The general theme is fall.

Interested poets need to submit up to six pieces to the Hartley Public Library by Oct. 28 so the program can be printed for the following Wednesday.

Refreshments will be provided, and new poets are welcome. Part of the program will be dedicated to Betty Taylor, who was the group’s inspiration and mentor.

Included on the agenda will be a time for anyone not on the program to present their poems. For more information, contact Dave Hoye at (712) 834-2160.

Spencer blood drive planned Oct. 18

LifeServe Blood Center is conducting a drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer on Monday, Oct. 18 from 2-6 p.m.

Donors needed for Oct. 20 blood drive

Blood is needed as supplies are low, so help boost the supply by donating during the drive that will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Donation hours are 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center, 820 2nd Street NE.

Feenstra office reps to visit area

Representatives from the office of Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) will be in area counties to help constituents with casework relating to passports, veterans’ benefits, and other federal programs.

Iowans in the 4th District can also visit Feenstra.House.Gov to submit a casework request. Constituents should note that Rep. Feenstra will not be at traveling office hours at the following locations.

• Dickinson County: Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 1-3 p.m. at Spirit Lake Library, 702 16th Street.

• O’Brien County: Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 1-3 p.m. at Sheldon Public Library, 925 4th Avenue.

Food distribution is Oct. 20 at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 4-6 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

Discover night eyes during night hike

Join the O’Brien County Conservation naturalist for a night hike this October and explore with night eyes. This family friendly night hike will be on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., and lasts approximately an hour.

Participants will be led on a hike on the trails at the Prairie Heritage Center to see what night eyes they can find and any other spooky creatures that go bump in the night.

Youth pheasant hunt Oct. 23 at Crosbie Center

A youth pheasant hunt will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Crosbie Wildlife & Nature Youth Center. To participate youth must be between the ages of 12 and 15 years old.

The pheasant hunt will begin at 8 a.m., with a warm-up trap shoot beginning at 8:30 a.m. Adult mentors will then take youth on a one-on-one pheasant hunt to follow. Participants need to wear weather appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes. They may bring their own guns. Guns will also be available for those who need them.

Food pantry at Hope Lutheran

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.
