A funeral service for Phyllis I. Sampson was held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at the United Church of Primghar with Pastor Mike Cooper officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar. Arrangements were under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar.

Phyllis Irene Sampson, the daughter of Adolf and Hazel (Crooks) Hagedorn, was born May 27, 1928. She received her education in a country school and when the family moved to a farm northeast of Primghar, Phyllis finished her education and graduated from Primghar High School. After high school she was employed at the O’Brien County Treasurer’s Office and the Assessor’s Office.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Kenneth Sampson on March 6, 1949, at the Methodist church in Hartley. They started their married life on a farm just outside of Sanborn. In 1962, they moved to a farm north of Primghar. In 1982, they built a home on the northeast corner of Primghar where they would retire. Later the couple moved to the Prairie View Manor Assisted Living in Sanborn to make their home. Kenny preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2018 in Sanborn. Phyllis remained in Prairie View and passed away there on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, reaching the age of 93 years, four months and one day.

Phyllis and Kenny spent nearly 20 years wintering in Arizona with their friends. The couple enjoyed flight breakfasts, taking day trips with their grandchildren to Waterman Creek, the railroad in Boone, Little House on the Prairie, pumpkin picks in the fall and Easter egg hunts in the spring. She loved baking pies for special occasions and making Christmas cookies with her grandkids. She was a faithful member of the United Church of Primghar and United Church Women. She was a devoted, loving wife to Kenny and was proud of her kids and grandchildren, and especially loved spending time with them.

Phyllis is survived by her three sons and their wives: Galen (Julie) Sampson, Craig (Sharon) Sampson and Mark (Debra) Sampson, all of Primghar; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law and his wife, Byron (Dorothy) Sampson, of Okoboji; three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Tesch, of Hartley; and Elsin Petersen and Shirley Ney, both of Okoboji; also other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; her in-laws; four brothers-in-law: Milton Sampson, Emory Petersen, Merlon Tesch and John Ney; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Sampson.
