• Vehicle goes airborne over road
Two women were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries following an accident that occurred on Sept. 24. at 4:40 p.m.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 2011 Honda Fit driven by Lenice Marie Mercer, 70, of Sioux City, was westbound in the 5600 mile of 500th Street. Glare from the sun caused Mercer to fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of 500th Street and Redwing Avenue. The Honda went airborne over Redwing Avenue and came to rest in the eastbound lane in the 5500 mile of 500th Street.
Mercer and a passenger, Marilyn Hodgins, 77, also of Sioux City, were transported by Paullina EMS to Orange City Area Health System for treatment of complaint of pain/injury.
Damage to the Honda was estimated at $2,814. Mercer was cited for Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
