• High-speed pursuit in O’Brien County

Officers from five law enforcement agencies were involved in a high-speed pursuit that occurred in O’Brien County on May 1.

According to the report, Paullina Police Chief Nate Bremer attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by Alex Delashmutt, 28, of Paullina, for an alleged speeding violation. Delashmutt initially appeared to pull over into a driveway, but then turned around and drove off in the opposite direction. Bremer pursued the suspect vehicle for 10 miles before he eluded him. Delashmutt was later located and the pursuit resumed for another 10 miles before he eluded Bremer again.

Officers from four other agencies converged on the area and Delashmutt was located, resulting in another pursuit. The suspect drove into a field and ended up in a culvert. Delashmutt reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was chased down and taken into custody by a trooper from the Iowa State Patrol.

Delashmutt was taken to the O’Brien County jail where he was charged on two counts of Eluding, a felony; OWI-2nd Offense and Driving While Barred, misdemeanors; and several traffic citations. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 12.

Assisting in the pursuit were the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the Sanborn and Hartley police departments and the Iowa State Patrol.

• $60,000 in damage to CFE semi

Approximately $60,000 in damage was reported as a result of an accident involving a 2007 Freightliner owned by Cooperative Farmers Elevator.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Devon Ten Kley, of Hartley, was driving the Freightliner in the 3100 mile of 120th Avenue, on May 7 at 7:30 a.m., when he met another vehicle. The tires of the Freightliner dropped off the shoulder and Ten Kley was unable to keep it from sliding into the ditch and rolling.

No injuries were reported. The road had to be closed while crews removed the wreckage.

• Loses control and ends up in ditch

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office investigated a traffic accident which occurred on May 2 at 2:25 a.m. The report stated that Trey Jonathan Iedema, 19, of Archer, was driving eastbound on 370th Street near Olive Avenue when he lost control of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. It crossed the centerline and entered the north ditch.

Iedema was not injured. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,000. The only citation listed on the report was Failure to Maintain Control; however, the sheriff’s report stated that the defendant was under the influence of alcohol, which was considered to be a major contributing factor in this accident.
