• Arrested on felony drug charges

A Hartley man was charged with two drug-related felonies along with misdemeanor drug and traffic counts after a traffic stop on April 24 at approximately 9:49 a.m.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, a 1995 Chevrolet pickup registered to Jennifer Jones, of Paullina, was stopped in the 3100 mile of McKinley Avenue near Sheldon. The deputy identified the driver and only occupant as Daniel Ryan Trevino, 45, of Hartley.

Further investigation uncovered drug paraphernalia inside the pickup which was towed. The O’Brien County K9, Ella, conducted a search and indicated that an illegal controlled substance was inside the pickup. A search warrant was obtained and approximately 112 grams of crystal methamphetamine were reported to have been located and seized.

Charges against Trevino include Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, a class B felony; Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a class D felony; Possession of Methamphetamine-2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Have Proof of Insurance and Driving Left of Center, all simple misdemeanors.

Trevino was taken to the O’Brien County jail where he was held on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on May 11.

Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing and further search warrants and arrests were pending.

Assisting the sheriff’s office with the investigation were the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Great Lakes Task Force.

• Two injured in intersection collision

Both drivers of vehicles involved in an accident at the intersection of A34 and M27, at 11 a.m. on April 27, were seriously injured.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Eddy, 60, of Okoboji, was eastbound on A34 when he drove his 2008 Dodge Ram into the path of a 2014 Buick driven by Oma Crouch, 27, of Everly, who was northbound on M27.

Both were taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. According to the report, Eddy was later flown to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. No further information was reported.

Dickinson County Emergency Management, Milford Fire and Rescue, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance and Lake Park Ambulance assisted at the scene. Authorities state the accident remains under investigation.
