H-M-S boys win 5 events at home meet

Team scores 78 points to finish third overall last Friday

Five first-place finishes highlighted the performance of the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys' track and field team at the 2021 edition of the Hawk Relays, on April 23 at Peterson Field.

Connor Dodd swept the 100 and 200 meter dash titles, running the former in :11.22 while finishing the latter in a time of :23.09. Noah Adams also earned a first-place finish in the long jump with his leap of 19'11.25".

H-M-S also swept the 4x100 and 4x200 relays in times of :45.68 and 1:35.46, respectively.

In the individual running events, Adams was the runner-up in the 100 (:11.63); and Brenton Thomas placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.53).

Ethan Diehm placed fourth in the long jump (18'1.75") and Gabe Bronstad finished sixth in the shot put (38'8").

Other relay finishes for the Hawks were: 1600 meter medley, third, 4:17.25; 4x800, fourth, 11:20.60; 800 meter medley, fifth, 1:49.04; and 4x400, sixth, 4:07.45.


Okoboji won the boys' varsity team title with 141 points and Sibley-Ocheyedan came in second with 134. The rest of the team scoring included H-M-S 78, Cherokee 70, George-Little Rock 48, Harris-Lake Park 40, Akron-Westfield 27, Trinity Christian 25 and Remsen St. Mary's 15.

• JV results

In boys' JV, Ryan Borden and Bradley Zamudio finished 1-2 in the 100 meter dash, running times of :11.90 and :12.44, respectively. The Hawks claimed the Top 4 places in the 200 meter dash: Diehm, :25.21; Zamudio, :25.52; Travis Kamradt, :25.46; and Trenton Vollink, :26.11.

Keevyn Jacobsma was the winner of the JV discus throw with a distance of 97'4". Jacob Cates finished fifth (77'9") and Ethan Huberg was sixth (73'8"). Huberg and Adam Schierholz tied for fifth in the JV shot put (32'6").


The JV 4x100 team finished second (:51.25) and the 4x100.25 relay finished fourth (1:03.98).

H-M-S will host the War Eagle Conference track and field meet on Monday, May 3, starting at 4 p.m.
