Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn junior Anissa Bush competed in Iowa's Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state contest on Thursday, April 1. She completed a "Promote and Publicize FCCLA" project titled, "Advertise and Acknowledge H-M-S FCCLA."

Over the last year, Bush has been working hard to promote FCCLA and increase H-M-S's membership in the student organization. She completed that goal by doubling the membership of the H-M-S FCCLA Chapter. Bush's appearance in the state competition was a first for H-M-S, and she received a silver medal.

FCCLA is a family-focused youth organization. Members are empowered to address personal, work and societal issues through individual and chapter projects. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life necessary in the home and workplace such as planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication.
