Clay County 4-H Bow Wow Basics to be held May 2

The Clay County 4-H dog project area is offering an educational opportunity for all 4-H youth and parents/guardians interested in the dog project area.

This informational event, Bow Wow Basics, will be held at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Clay County Office, 110 W. 4th Street in Spencer, on Sunday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. 4-H members should bring a copy of their dog's current rabies vaccination certificate with veterinarian signature, but please no dogs at this event.

The Right Lead Program will again be available for new dog project area members. This program, sponsored by Homestead Small Animal Practice, provides a complimentary collar and leash to new members so that the dogs will have properly fitting equipment. The fitting for the collars and leashes will take place during the first and second week of classes only, on June 7 and June 14.

4-H dog obedience classes will begin on Monday, June 7. First-, second- and third-year project members will meet at 6:30 p.m., and classes will begin at 7:30 p.m. for the novice and advanced project area members. Additional classes will begin in July for agility, rally and handling following the obedience class.
