Local COVID-19 rates hold steady

COVID-19 positivity rates in O'Brien and Clay counties remained relatively unchanged during the past week.

O'Brien County's seven-day positivity rate was unchanged at 4 percent between April 13-20. Clay County's increased slightly from 4 percent to 5 percent over that same time period. Statewide numbers decreased from 4.8 percent 4.4 percent.

Coronavirus-related deaths remained unchanged in O'Brien County at 60 and 25 in Clay County. Statewide fatalities jumped from 5,857 last week to 5,893 this week.

Confirmed infections since the pandemic began tallied 2,125 in O'Brien County, 2,225 in Clay County and 390,024 statewide. Recoveries in that same order were 1,842, 1,930 and 341,761.

As of Sunday, there were 215 coronavirus-related hospitalizations in Iowa, down from 220 the previous week. O'Brien County reported one hospitalization while Clay County had zero.


Clay County has initiated 1,465 vaccine series and completed 6,016, while O'Brien County has initiated 1,044 series and completed 3,734. Statewide, there have been 379,792 vaccine series initiated and 895,872 completed, including administered doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was suspended April 13.

According to the state's coronavirus data website, O'Brien County and Clay County had administered 225 and 50 doses, respectively, of the one-shot vaccine before rollout was halted to review six cases of blood clotting-related issues.
