O'Brien County records 1 more COVID-19 death

7-day positivity rates dip locally

COVID-19 positivity rates remained low in O'Brien and Clay counties during the past week.

O'Brien County's seven-day positivity rate decreased from 5 percent on April 6 to 4 percent on April 13. Clay County's dipped from 7 percent to 4 percent over that same time period. Statewide numbers decreased from 4.9 percent to 4.8 percent.

Coronavirus-related deaths increased by one in O'Brien County to 60. Clay County's death toll was unchanged at 25, while statewide fatalities jumped from 5,835 last week to 5,857 this week.

Confirmed infections since the pandemic began tallied 2,105 in O'Brien County, 2,201 in Clay County and 387,105 statewide. Recoveries in that same order were 1,814, 1,878 and 338,585.

As of Sunday, there were 220 coronavirus-related hospitalizations in Iowa, up from 217 the previous week. Clay County reported one hospitalization while O'Brien County had zero.


Clay County has initiated 1,962 vaccine series and completed 5,352, while O'Brien County has initiated 1,423 series and completed 3,158. Statewide, there have been 394,466 vaccine series initiated and 798,577 completed, including administered doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was suspended Tuesday.

According to the state's coronavirus data website, O'Brien County and Clay County had administered 222 and 49 doses, respectively, of the one-shot vaccine before rollout was halted to review six cases of blood clotting-related issues.
