Hartley voters overwhelmingly passed a $1.7 million bond issue March 2 to partially finance construction of a new pool. The facility's price tag is estimated at $3 million.

Planners of Hartley's new pool should know its precise location soon.

A land survey of Neebel Park is slated to take place this month to pinpoint the layout of the future pool. It was hoped to take place last week, according to project manager Michael Fisher, but snow cover made that impossible.

Once the fieldwork is complete, planning will move forward in earnest. The design team was scheduled to meet with the pool committee Monday evening to present some of the components of the project and discuss the planned progress, according to Fisher.

"The bathhouse layout is being developed, and the pool mechanical building layout is also being developed," he said. "The site layout is continuing to be refined."

City Administrator Erica Haack said the survey will cover the current pool area in Neebel Park. She said the engineer is proposing using the same footprint to gain certain efficiencies on the project. The pool committee has received preliminary designs for the new aquatic center, but nothing has been set in stone.

"There will still be some tweaking to this design, but it gives you a good idea of what the team is looking at," Haack said.

Other locations for the pool were discussed, however, it was determined the current location in Neebel Park provided the most cost-efficient option. The new aquatic center has a budget of approximately $3 million and building at a new location could significantly increase the cost, according to the pool committee.

The square footage of the pool will be comparable to the current one. Once constructed, the facility will include a zero-entry play area with a family slide, four swimming lanes, deep water diving and swim area, basketball hoops and a volleyball net, new bathhouse, and a large deck area with shaded zones.

To accommodate construction, there will be no pool season in Hartley this year. The new aquatic center is hoped to be built and operable by the summer of 2022.
