Clair A. Moding, 87, Omaha, Neb.

Clair Arthur Moding, the son of Forrest and Lucille Moding, was born on April 6, 1933 at home near Peterson. He received his education in Sutherland, graduating in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army in September 1953 and served with the first Niki guided missile group at Long Island, N.Y. and was discharged in September of 1955.

He farmed with his dad until 1959 when he married Marlene Johanson on July 18, 1959. He then entered into business with his brother Donald as a painter, sign painter and carpenter. They made their home for a short time in Sutherland, then moved to Spencer working as a painter and carpenter until 1969 when he started working as a parts salesman at Harms Implement Co. in Everly until 1993 when the business closed. He then went back to painting and his leather craft hobby.

He was a member officer in the Everett P. Boyles, Jr. Post 414, American Legion of Everly, for over 29 years. Clair and his brother Don had their own country band called The Night Hawks and they played in and around this area for over 13 years.


Clair passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by Marlene, his parents, one infant sister and two brothers.

Left to cherish his memory are one son, Jeffrey and his wife Judy Pitts, of Cape Coral, Fla.; one daughter, Barbara and her husband John Zatloukal, of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Tiffany and her husband Trevor Daub, of Omaha; granddaughter, Kayla, of Omaha; step granddaughter, Sonya and her husband Adam, of Omaha; step grandson, Jared and his wife Stacy, of Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren: Brandon, of Washington; Katie, of Omaha; Natalie, Brooke and Ava, of Des Moines; and Tinley and Taiden, of Omaha; plus many nieces and nephews, and friends.
