• Feb. 28, 1946

The Hartley girls’ basketball team won the right to represent northwest Iowa in the state tournament at Des Moines by coming out on top in the district tourney which was held in Hartley. Hartley smashed a determined Meriden sextet, 63-36, to advance to the district finals. The championship game was one of those contests where anything could happen, either good or bad. However, most everything good happened to Hartley as they romped away with Mallard by the convincing score of 66-36.

Each team in the tournament received a trophy. The first and second place trophies were provided by the Girls’ Union, and the third and fourth place trophies were donated by the Hartley Chamber of Commerce.
