Recognized for academic excellence at UNI

Two area students were named to the fall 2020 semester Dean's List at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Those included on the list must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking at least 12 hours of graded work.

Students included on the list are Taylor Grohe, of Hartley; and Emily Rouse, of Sanborn.

Rouse was also among the 868 fall graduates at UNI. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Disorders.

Artists sought for 2021 Artisans Road Trip

The 17th annual Artisans Road Trip (A.R.T.) is looking for artists. The deadline for applications is Monday, March 1. All disciplines and mediums are accepted: painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, jewelry, fabric, wood, photography, pottery, and more.


The open studio tour is held every fall in October; however, the 2020 trip was postponed to 2021 due to safety concerns. Those who joined A.R.T. last year will still be a part of the event and new artists are welcome.

Savanna Handy named to UI dean's list

Savanna Handy, of Everly, was among the more than 7,400 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the dean's list for the 2020 fall semester.


Handy is a student in the UI's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and is majoring in Human Physiology.

To qualify for the list, undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on nine semester hours or more of graded coursework.

WIT announces Scholar List

Western Iowa Tech Community College recently announced the President's Scholar List for the 2020 fall term. Students must have carried at least 12 credit hours and attained a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.

Joshua Petrich, of Hartley, was named on the list.
