• More charges filed against Sutherland man

A Sutherland man faces additional charges following an investigation into several vehicle thefts and burglaries that occurred in October of 2020.

According to the Sutherland Police Department, Bradley Tyler Kots, 24, was arrested on Jan. 13 and charged with four counts of Burglary-3rd Degree, a class D felony; two counts of Theft-2nd Degree, also a class D felony; Operating a Motor Vehicle without the Owner’s Consent, an aggravated misdemeanor; Trespassing, a serious misdemeanor; and Theft-5th Degree, a simple misdemeanor. All of the charges stem from incidents that occurred on Oct. 5 and 6 in Sutherland.

Kots was previously arrested following a December incident in which he allegedly led officers on a high-speed chase while driving a vehicle that was reported stolen. He also was charged after allegedly stealing a car from the parking lot at Dollar General in Sheldon in early December. Cherokee County has also charged Kots with vehicle theft following unrelated incidents in that county.


• Loses control in slush

A vehicle ended up in the ditch after the driver lost control on slush on Jan. 14 at 9 a.m.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Tamara Naima Hendrickson, 26, of Sac City, was traveling west on B40/Tanager Avenue when her 2017 Ford Fusion hit slush on the roadway. She lost control of the vehicle which entered the ditch.

Hendrickson was not injured. Damage to the Fusion was estimated at $2,500. She was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.


• Snowdrift leads to collision

A snowdrift contributed to a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Jan. 15 at 8:48 a.m.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Alexander James Dykstra, 27, of Primghar, was driving westbound on B40/390th Street when his 2012 Ford Focus hit a snowdrift on a bridge, causing it to enter the eastbound lane. Dykstra’s vehicle struck a 2016 GMC Yukon driven by Grant David Howe, 33, of Hinton, which was westbound. Both vehicles became disabled as a result of the collision.

No injuries were reported. Damage to Howe’s vehicle was listed at $7,119 while the damage estimate for Dykstra’s vehicle was $4,853.

• Driver falls asleep, vehicle hits guardrail

Several citations were issued following an accident that occurred on Jan. 17 at 10:15 a.m.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Johnathan Douglas Oldenkamp, 28, of Primghar, was southbound in the 3400 mile of L40/Oriole Avenue when he fell asleep. His 2003 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the northbound lane before striking a guardrail on the bridge and coming to rest near the creek bed.

Oldenkamp was not injured. Damage to the Silverado was listed at $4,753 while the guardrail, owned by O’Brien County, sustained $5,000 in damage. Oldenkamp was cited for Driving While License Barred, Driving While License Suspended, Driving Without SR22 Insurance and Failure to Maintain Control.
